About The Project

The client, based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, came to us with a small downstairs toilet that no longer worked for their household. The room had an old carpet that needed removing, offered no storage for everyday essentials such as toilet rolls, and felt permanently dark due to very little natural sunshine reaching the space.

With a project budget of £3,000, we recommended fixtures from our Vinaros bathroom range, chosen for its clean lines and space-efficient design, ideal for a compact cloakroom. The brief was clear: the client wanted a fresh, clean look, proper storage, more light, a practical floor covering, and an overall update that made the room feel less cramped.

Before any work began, our team carried out a full design review to understand exactly how the existing layout was limiting the space, setting the foundation for the changes that followed.

The Process & The Bathroom Design & Build In Progress

Once the room was cleared, first-fix work began with new pipework for the radiator and adjustments to the plumbing for the basin and toilet, preparing the room for its new suite. Our electrician then fitted the new light fitting before the back wall was tiled.

Plywood was laid to create a good, flat base for the new flooring, and LVT was installed in a brick pattern design for a durable, practical finish. With the base flooring in place, the toilet, vanity unit and radiator were fitted, along with new Torus skirting boards to replace the old, basic profile. The tiling was completed and finished with a contrasting light grey grout for definition.

Thanks to thorough first-fix preparation, every element fitted exactly where it should, and the whole project was completed within the planned one-week timeframe with no unexpected issues. You can see more examples of similarly planned projects in our project gallery.

The Results

The finished downstairs toilet now gives the client a genuinely practical, well-lit space that makes much better use of the previously cramped layout. A new Vinaros suite was installed, with the toilet repositioned to improve the use of space, while a smaller, more practical vanity unit added much-needed storage. The radiator was upgraded with thermostatic valves for better control, and LVT flooring was laid in a brick pattern over a plywood base. Torus skirting boards replaced the original basic profile, while new tiling was added to the back wall and finished with contrasting light grey grout. New lighting was also fitted to brighten what had previously been a dark room, with the full project completed within a one-week timeframe.
