A Contemporary Kitchen Transformation in Chesterfield

At David Lord Kitchens, we pride ourselves on creating practical, stylish, and inspiring kitchen spaces tailored to each client’s vision. In this recent project, we were entrusted by homeowner Dawn Barnes to revitalise her tired and outdated kitchen in New Whittington, Chesterfield. With a clear vision in mind and a desire for a more open and functional space, Dawn came to us with the goal of completely transforming her kitchen into a modern, welcoming area fit for both cooking and entertaining.

About The Project

Dawn’s kitchen renovation was motivated by the need for a fresh new look and better use of space. The existing layout no longer suited her lifestyle, particularly the bulky breakfast bar which she wanted to remove in favour of a more open-plan design. Her vision included freeing up enough room for a dining table and chairs, allowing the kitchen to double as a family dining area. Colour choice played a key role from the outset, with Dawn seeking a harmonious combination of cabinet doors and worktops that would suit her taste and the overall ambiance of the home.

We installed a Riva kitchen range in a foil wrap style, complemented by durable laminate worktops and luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring for a high-end yet practical finish.

The Process & The Kitchen Design & Build In Progress

From start to finish, we focused on meticulous planning and flawless execution. The process started with the removal and responsible disposal of the old kitchen, including all cabinetry, wall tiles, and flooring. As no structural changes were required, we were able to move smoothly into the fit-out stage.

Electrical and plumbing work was completed in two key phases. Our trusted electrician carried out the first fix, laying the groundwork for the final installations. Once our plumber completed the first fix plumbing, the kitchen units and worktops were installed. Following this, we proceeded with second fix electrics, plumbing, and the gas connection – all carried out by certified professionals to meet regulations and safety standards.

The kitchen was fitted with a built-in oven, gas hob, glass splashback, cooker hood, and an integrated dishwasher, making it a fully equipped space. Finally, we installed the LVT flooring in a contrasting wood finish that flowed seamlessly from the kitchen into the hall. New skirting boards were added throughout, bringing a cohesive and polished look to the entire project.

Thanks to diligent pre-planning, including double-checking all measurements before ordering materials, the project ran without any unexpected hiccups.

The Results

The finished kitchen is not only modern and beautiful but also practical and spacious. Dawn was thrilled with the result, particularly the colour scheme and overall design which perfectly matched her initial vision. In fact, she shared that it exceeded her expectations. She also noted how impressed friends and family were when visiting the newly transformed space.

We were equally pleased with how smoothly the project progressed, due in no small part to Dawn’s active involvement and clear communication throughout the journey. It was a pleasure to work with her, and we’re delighted that she has already asked us to return to extend the flooring into her utility room – a testament to her satisfaction with the work.

I’m absolutely elated with the end result! The design and colour choice are exactly what I wanted – it’s even better than I imagined. Everyone who walks into the kitchen is blown away by it. Communication throughout the project was excellent. Thank you!
